Leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal will be featured as a representative of the Rajasthan Royals in the current Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season and this would be a fresh prospect for the fans as they closely associate the spinner with Royal Challengers Bangalore ( RCB). Prior to the IPL mega-sale, fans expected Chahal to be retained by the franchise, but this was not the case. And now Chahal has parted ways with the franchise he holds dear.
“They didn’t ask me if I wanted to be kept or tell me if they wanted to keep me. They only talked about the three retentions and I was told that – ‘we are going in the auction for you’. I also didn’t ask for money, nor did I get a retention offer. But I will always be loyal to my Bangalore fans. I love them so much no matter what,” Chahal told The Times of India†
Speaking further about the bond he has with the RCB fans, Chahal said: “I have a close relationship with RCB, especially with the fans. I have had the opportunity to play many matches with the team. I am emotionally attached to RCB. that I would play for another team. People and fans on social media still ask me ‘why did you ask for so much money?’ The reality is Mike Hesson (RCB Director of Cricket) called me and said, ‘Listen Yuzi, there are three retentions’ (Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Mohammed Siraj).”
Chahal played 113 games for the RCB in the IPL and took 139 wickets. Chahal played one match for the Mumbai Indians in the 2013 edition of the tournament.
In the ongoing edition of the IPL, Chahal will share the locker room with the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin, Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson for the Rajasthan Royals.
