Veteran auctioneer Hugh Edmeades collapsed during the first session of the Indian Premier League auction in Bengaluru on Saturday, but was found “to be fine” after a medical check-up. Veteran sports presenter Charu Sharma was given the auction duties for the remainder of the event as Edmeades received medical care after the fall attributed to low blood pressure. The 60-year-old’s collapse mid-trial led to an early lunch amid commotion in the auction room. The IPL stated through its official account that Edmeades is currently in stable condition.

The 60-year-old Edmeades’ collapse mid-trial led to an early lunch amid commotion in the auction room.
“He has been treated by a doctor. He is doing well, his blood pressure suddenly dropped and that was the reason for his sudden collapse. We will know more once he has a thorough checkup,” a BCCI source told PTI.
“He is stable and we will provide further updates at a later date,” a BCCI spokesperson said later.

Edmeades, who has conducted more than 2,700 auctions around the world, mostly of cars, including an Aston Martin used in a James Bond film, had the Sri Lankan leg spinner Wanindu Hasaranga’s name under the hammer when he fell off his auction pedestal.
Sharma was the CEO of the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise during the inaugural season of the IPL.
