For a moment in Tuesday’s high-scoring thriller between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), it looked like Dinesh Karthik would do the impossible and take the game away and leave Ravindra Jadeja’s team without a win after five matches in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. RCB faced a steep chase, aiming at 217 and the top order fell early, but Karthik – in the form of his life – seemed to play another blinder to push RCB to a unlikely victory.
CSK kept the nerves in check, however, and Captain Jadeja held a nice catch in the deep end to end Karthik’s blitzkrieg over in the 18th.
The RCB wicketkeeper appeared to slap Dwayne Bravo over midwicket, but he failed to clear Jadeja in the deep end.
The CSK captain has all the safe hands you could wish for, and he held on comfortably before kicking off a celebration that showed his relief that he had finally taken a win this season.
Karthik’s wicket left RCB on 171/9 and needed 46 of 16 deliveries, effectively ending RCB’s hopes of a miraculous chase. The experienced glove man left with 34 of the 14 deliveries.

After being captained to the franchise just two days before the start of the season, Jadeja has had a rough start, with CSK losing their first four games.
So it was no surprise that the relief was evident as he landed the catch that nearly gave them the win.
RCB managed to trudge along to 193/9, with CSK eventually winning by 23 runs.
After a slow start, Shivam Dube (95* out of 46) and Robin Uthappa (88 out of 50) tore in the RCB bowlers, forging a 165-run partnership as CSK scored 216/4 – their highest score to date this season.
Then Maheesh Theekshana took four, while Jadeja took three wickets as CSK recorded their first win of the season.
