Pat Cummins’ 56-run knockout in just 15 balls came as a surprise to rival captain Rohit Sharma when Mumbai Indians succumbed to a five-wicket defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Wednesday. “Never expected him to come and play like this! Kudos to him for the way he played,” Mumbai captain Rohit Sharma said at the post-match presentation ceremony. Mumbai Indians started quite slow as they scored just 35 runs for the loss of one wicket in the first six overs of power play. The five-time champion was 98/3 in 16 overs, scoring 63 runs in the last four overs to bring their tally to 161 in 20 overs, thanks to a 22-run 5-ball knock from Kieron Pollard.
“We didn’t start well with the bat. In the last four overs it was a big effort to get 160-plus,” said Rohit Sharma.
By the end of 15 overs, Kolkata Knight Riders needed 35 runs in five overs with the game almost even, but Cummins hammered Daniel Sams for 35 runs in one over to get his team across the finish line with four overs left.

“We had the game over to the 15th but the way Cummins played. We thought we could have them. But this will be hard to digest as it proved to be in the last few overs. There is a lot of hard work we have to bets,” Rohit Sharma explained.
The Mumbai Indians’ five-wicket defeat to KKR was their third of the season in as many games. The Rohit Sharma-led side will be eyeing their first win of the season when they face Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday.
