Mumbai Indians are bottom of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 standings as the Rohit Sharma-led side have lost all of their four matches to date. The combination has not clicked for the franchise and they have yet to settle for a playing XI who can click under all circumstances. Batting, bowling and fielding were all not enough for the five-time champion this season and this is the main reason behind the Mumbai Indians’ failure in the current edition. The squad will face Punjab Kings next Wednesday and it remains to be seen if the squad makes any changes to their line-up.
In the last match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians only played two foreign players – Dewald Brevis and Kieron Pollard and hence there is a case to play both Riley Meredith and Fabien Allen.
This is what we think should be the Mumbai Indians playing XI against Punjab Kings
Rohit Sharma: The right-handed batter was not at his best in the current season and Mumbai Indians would love their skipper to fire.
Ishan Kishan: The most expensive purchase of this season had mixed feelings with the bat and after the game against Delhi Capitals, it didn’t look good. An in-form opening duo is the need of the hour for Mumbai Indians.
Dewald Brevis: The young Proteas batter has impressed everyone with his reach and he would hope to score a big one for the franchise.
Suryakumar Yadav: The right-handed batter has looked the best for Mumbai this season, scoring 50 in his last two appearances against KKR and RCB. He hoped the performances would keep coming and hoped for some support from the other side too.
Tilak Varma: The left-handed batter has the ability to change gears when putting down the hat and he can go after the bowling from the start. He would hope to end the games in some way.
Kieron Pollard: The high-powered Caribbean batsman has been off his radar this season, and he holds the key in the final overs when Mumbai Indians desperately need some gear.
Fabien Allen: Mumbai Indians must find a way to include Fabien Allen in their lineup as he brings something to the table in all three divisions of the game. His striking at death and acrobatic fielding are his greatest strengths.
Murugan Ashwin: The spinner has had a mixed bag this season and he needs to find his mojo to help Rohit Sharma make breakthroughs in the mid-stage of the game.
Jaydev Unadkat: The seasoned left-armed sailor must bring in all his experience to help Mumbai Indians achieve breakthroughs in the power play.
Jasper Bumrah: The pacesetter was a one-man army for the Mumbai Indians and he has performed well so far. He would really hope that someone on the other side would support him.
Riley Meredith: The fast bowler from Australia is an ideal candidate to provide firepower to the Mumbai Indians bowling lineup, and he can make a deadly match with Bumrah when they’re both on song.
