Rajasthan Royals all-rounder Daryl Mitchell thinks field adaptation will be key for all teams in the coming IPL as surfaces will slow down as the tournament progresses. “I have a feeling the fields will definitely slow down as the competition phase progresses. For us as a team it’s about adapting and being in the right frame of mind on a certain surface,” said Mitchell, who wants to impress in his first IPL season.
Mitchell was bought by RR for Rs 75 lakh in the mega auction earlier this year, and the 30-year-old just wants to contribute to the team’s cause in any way he can.
“My aim is to play the game with a smile on my face. I am proud to represent Rajasthan Royals here and will do everything I can to help the team on the pitch or off the bench,” he said.
“It feels good to be part of a huge tournament like the IPL. With some of the best players in the world, I think it’s a great learning experience and I’m happy to have the chance to learn from the best here .” Mitchell’s trans-Tasman rival turned IPL teammate, Nathan Coulter-Nile is looking forward to teaming up with Sri Lankan legend Lasith Malinga, who has joined RR as the team’s fast bowling coach.
“He’s incredible, it’s been great to see him do his job during my time with Mumbai and now with the Royals,” said Coulter-Nile of his former Mumbai Indians team-mate Malinga.

“To train and prepare under him now is a good opportunity to get in his head and see how he feels about bowling,” added the 34-year-old Australian, who has picked up 48 wickets at an average of less over 22 in his IPL journey to date.
“For me the goal is to help win the trophy for the Royals, of course I would love to be there to help the team, but in a long tournament you have to be ready for whatever management asks of you and just prepare for the long term.” RR will open their IPL-15 campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Pune on March 29.
