Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals will face off in Qualifier 1 of the ongoing IPL 2022 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Tuesday night, with the winner going straight to the final set to be played in Ahmedabad on Sunday. The Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat had finished the league stage at the top of the rankings, while Rajasthan followed closely behind in second place.
There are some match winners in both teams, so it would be interesting to watch some of the key player battles.
Here are some of the battles that can play a big part in determining the winner between GT-RR:
Jos Buttler vs Alzarri Joseph
Buttler has been in good form for RR this season, registering 629 runs and he is the current holder of the Orange Cap. However, in the last few matches his form has dropped and Gujarat is said to be looking for money. Alzarri Joseph can bowl very fast and he has the ability to rattle the batters.
Hardik Pandya vs Yuzvendra Chahal
Chahal has the Purple Cap this season with 26 scalps, while skipper Hardik led from the front and scored 413 runs. Both players are essential to their formation. Both are expected to play a vital role, and how Chahal bowls to Hardik in the mid-stage of the game could turn the game upside down.
Ravichandran Ashwin vs David Miller
Ashwin’s record for left-handers is unmatched, and he enjoys bowling for them. Sanju Samson has used Ashwin in the power play, but it would be interesting to see if he only stops him for David Miller and Rahul Tewatia. With both batters back to the hut, Rajasthan can probably dictate the game.
Shubman Gill vs Trent Boult
Left-armer Trent Boult always has his radar in the middle of power playovers, so Gill can’t let his guard down. Gill and Saha have given Gujarat a good start at the top, so it’s important for Boult to give Rajasthan a crucial blow early on.
