Team India’s preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup was given a major shock earlier this week when Prime Minister speedster Jasprit Bumrah was banned from the ongoing three-match T20I series against South Africa. It is not clear whether Bumrah would be available for the T20 World Cup, which will kick off on October 16. Ahead of the second T20I against South Africa, head coach Rahul Dravid gave an update on Bumrah and said the pacer to the National Cricket Academy and management are awaiting official word.
“So from now on he has been officially banned from the T20 series against South Africa. He has gone to the NCA and we are waiting for official confirmation on the next steps. As of now, he has been officially banned from this series only, and we will We’ll see what happens in the next 2-3 days, but once we get official confirmation we can share,” Dravid said at a press conference on Saturday.
“Like I said, I’m not going to get into the medical reports, I’m relying on the experts to tell me what it is. They’ve banned him from this series and he’s under review. You’ll know what happens in due course in the future. Until he is not officially ruled out, we will always remain hopeful and hope for the best,” he added.
On Friday, the All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Mohammed Siraj to replace the injured Bumrah.

Bumrah had recently made a comeback from injury in the T20I series against Australia. He had missed more than two months of action due to his back injury and on his return could only compete in two games.
While the first game on his return saw him return numbers of 1 for 23 in two overs, the second game saw him leak 50 runs for no wicket in 4 overs.
