Liam Livingstone in action against the Netherlands
Liam Livingstone continues to deter the bowlers with his batting supremacy. The right-handed batter tied the record for second-fastest ODI fifty on Friday. He reached the milestone during his side’s ongoing first ODI of the series of three games against the Netherlands in Amstelveen. Reaching his half-century in just 17 balls, Livingstone joined Kusal Perera, Sanath Jayasuriya and Martin Guptill on the elite list. Meanwhile, he missed the world record of AB de Villiers, who scored the fastest ODI fifty, with just one ball.
Livingstone scored 66 out of 22 balls in the run-fest in which England scored a massive 498/4 total against the Netherlands. This is the world record for the highest team total. England improved their own record of 481/6, set against Australia in 2018.
Livingstone’s innings included six fours and as many sixes.

Speaking of the match, Dutch captain Pieter Seelaar won the toss and invited England to bat first. The hosts had a brief moment of joy when they got the wicket from Jason Roy early, reducing the Three Lions to 1/1. What followed, however, was an absolute carnage for the English batters as Philip Salt and Dawid Malan added 222 runs for the second wicket to keep the Netherlands at bay.
While Salt started on 122 from 93 balls, Malan scored 125 from 109 balls. Jos Buttler compounded the problem for the Netherlands with his 162 out of 70, while Livingstone not only tormented the bowlers but also took the opportunity to get his name in the history books.
