Pakistani captain Babar Azam has now topped the T20I batter’s rankings for the longest number of days after retaining his highest ranking in the recently released rankings. As a result, he surpassed former Indian captain Virat Kohli’s record of 1,013 days at the top. In the latest ICC rankings released on Wednesday, Babar maintained his position at the top of the T20I rankings, ahead of compatriot Mohammad Rizwan. His form in limited overs cricket is phenomenal and the Pakistani skipper also tops the ODI rankings ahead of second-placed Kohli and third-placed Imam-ul-Haq.
Following the achievement, the Pakistan Criket Board praised Babar Azam, saying, “Make Pakistan proud! Babar Azam surpasses Virat Kohli as the No. 1 batter in the ICC Men’s T20I ranking for the longest period of time. Shaheen Afridi rises to the best No. 1 in his career. 3rd place in ODIs”

Previously, the International Cricket Council (ICC) wrote in a statement: “The Pakistani skipper is currently rated as the No. 1 batter in T20Is and ODIs and recently suggested he would like to try and claim top billing across all three formats of the game. .”
Babar’s teammate and last year’s ICC T20I Player of the Year Mohammad Rizwan is second in the ranking.
The only Indian in the top 10 is Ishan Kishan, who is in 7th place. Kishan broke into the top 10 after his good showing in the home series against South Africa and had a decent performance in the first T20I against Ireland.

Babar piled up the runs for his Pakistani side and led them across formats from the front.
“Not many people can argue that Babar Azam is probably the best player in the world right now, in terms of hitting in that top order. He’s incredible, Joe Root has an argument for that. But I mean, Babar is, they’re talking about the big four, right now he’s the big one,” Doull said while commenting recently for Sky Sports.
