The 18-man Sri Lanka Test squad, led by star batter Dimuth Karunaratne and featuring veterans such as Angelo Mathews, Lahiru Thirimanne and Dinesh Chandimal, checked in in Dharamasala on Friday for the two-match series against India that starts in Mohali on March 4. However, senior batter Kusal Mendis and spinner Maheesh Theekshana have been banned from participating in the final two T20 Internationals, with the latter returning home due to a hamstring injury. However, Kusal will be left behind as he is part of the Test squad and will be added subject to eligibility. Niroshan Dickwella, who recently came out of suspension last year for breaking biobubbles in England, has been included in the T20 squad along with Dananjaya de Silva, who are both also part of the test squad.
The 18-man squad has been approved by Sri Lankan Youth and Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa, who is the son of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The SLC named all-rounder Ramesh Mendis in the roster but later said he was left out due to injury.
It also said spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, who was quarantined in Australia after testing positive for COVID-19, “will return home”.
