Ambati Rayudu caused a huge stir on Saturday after tweeting that the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 would be his last. The veteran Chennai Super Kings batter’s tweet came at 12:46 PM, but was deleted almost an hour later. It caused a huge amount of confusion over whether the pending edition was really the “last IPL” for Rayudu, as the 36-year-old claimed in his now-deleted tweet. In 12 matches in the 2022 IPL, Rayudu scored 271 runs at an average of 27.10.
“I am happy to announce that this will be my last IPL. I had a great time playing it and being part of 2 great teams for 13 years,” Rayudu tweeted. “I would like to sincerely thank the Mumbai Indians and CSK for the amazing journey.”
He later deleted the tweet. Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan has now clarified that Rayudu is “not retiring”.
“He was a little disappointed that he wasn’t doing well. So he posted that tweet in error. I explained things to him. He’s not retiring,” Vishwanathan told DailyExpertNews via phone call. “He will be with us.”
Rayudu was bought for a nice sum of INR 6.75 crore CSK in the IPL 2022 auction but has not found consistency this season.

Rayudu is the third highest go-getter for CSK this season, after Ruturaj Gaikwad (313 runs) and Shivam Dube (289 runs).
CSK is already out of the play-offs after losing to Mumbai Indians in their previous match. In 12 matches so far, CSK has won just four and is in ninth place in the league with 10 teams.
