Since Jonny Bairstow’s controversial sacking made headlines in the second Ashes Test, social media has been buzzing with both the Australian and England camps attacking each other. Bairstow was called out when Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey threw the ball to the stumps after the England batsman went out of his crease after ducking under a Cameron Green bouncer. There was confusion in the centre, Bairstow seemingly believing the ball was dead at the end of the over, but Australia were happy to continue with a very divisive call.
The umpires sent the decision up for review by TV umpire Marais Erasmus, who had no choice but to uphold Bairstow’s stupid dismissal.
Now a video is going viral of Jonny Bairstow brutally knocking out a rival batter. The clip, from that of a County match, shows Nottinghamshire batsman Samit Patel leaving a pitch during a match against Yorkhsire, for whom Bairstow is the wicket-keeper.
However, Bairstow waits and removes the bail only when Patel’s foot goes in the air, punching the Nottinghamshire batsman.

“It’s very, very clever of Jonny Bairstow,” said the commentator. “Samit Patel will trudge away, the weight of the world on his shoulders like it’s all some horrible conspiracy, but in fact it’s a worthless bit of cricket from him. Just lift his foot and Bairstow will do the rest. Kudos to Jonny Bairstow for realizing the moment.”
