Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav is content to have a “good headache” as he weighs his bowling options with a wide variety of talented players on display in the first T20I against Bangladesh. India were ruthless with the bat and the ball as they cruised to a 7-wicket win with consummate ease. A side that consisted of a mix of young players packed with talent and experienced stars brought much joy to head coach Gautam Gambhir and the India fans. With a pool of all-rounders and skilled bowlers, India had a total of eight bowling options, and six got a chance to try their hand with the ball.
All six kept things tight, stuck to their lines and kept the Bangladesh batters quiet throughout the first inning. The dynamic Indian batsman is happy with such bowling depth and feels it is a good thing for the team.
“It's a good headache when you're on the field who you have to bowl to. Anytime you have an extra option, it's a good thing,” Suryakumar Yadav said in the post-match presentation.
After months and months of waiting, Mayank Yadav, who tested the speed gun to the limit, from Delhi, finally appeared in India colours.
The fans finally got to see Mayank in action, and he did not disappoint, combining his blazing speed with a few deliveries that reached a speed of 135 kmph. He had one wicket to his name in his debut T20I appearance and gave away 21 runs in his four-over spell.
Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya were clinical during their spells, and the spinners supported the pacers perfectly, allowing India to assert their control.
In the batting department, it was business as usual for India. The opening batters went berserk on the powerplay, and the next in line kept the flow of runs going by keeping the healthy run rate intact.
“We just tried to back up our skills and what we had decided in our team meetings, and it worked. The way the boys showed character playing on a new ground and the way we batted, it was great,” added the Indian skipper to it.
There were a number of concerns in the field for India, with debutant Nitish Reddy dropping a catch and making a few marginal errors.
Asserting that the Indian team will focus on the areas where they need to improve, Suryakumar said, “With every new game you learn something new. There are always a few areas that can be improved. We will sit down and talk about it in the next competition.”
