Mumbai Indians (MI) are confronted with colleague IPL 2025 Playoff Hopefuls Delhi Capitals (DC), knowing that a victory would guarantee them a top four. DC, on the other hand, should avoid the defeat to stay alive in the tournament. Both teams have two more games left, with Mi (14) that leads DC (13) at a point after 12 league games so far. However, the high-stakes fixture can be influenced by rain after the Indian meteorological department (IMD) had published a yellow alert for Mumbai for the next four days for Mumbai on Tuesday evening.
DC co-owner Parth Jindal wrote an e-mail to the BCCI to move the game to another city, because the “virtual quarter finals are expected to be washed”.
Jindal's request came after RCB's home game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) from Bengaluru had shifted to Luckknow, due to “unfavorable weather conditions”.
“The prediction in Mumbai is for heavy rainfall and there is a strong chance that the game will be washed away,” wrote Jindal in the post, which was accessible by Espncricinfo.
Jindal added that it would be “consistent” to move the MI-DC competition.
“Just as the game between RCB vs SRH from Bengaluru has moved in the search for consistency and in the interest of the competition, it is my request that the game of tomorrow is also moved to another location, because we know most of 6 days that the forecast for 21st in Mumbai for heavy showers,” he added.
According to Espncricinfo, the rain arrived in Mumbai on Tuesday around 8 p.m. and the practice session of DC Wicketkeeper Batter Kl Rahul was shortened. By that time, the Mumbai Indians had completed their session. Mumbai experienced heavy rain showers for most of the evening, accompanied by dark clouds floating over the unstable stage.
If the fixture is excluded, both teams would run away with a single point and everything will depend on their last group phase. Mumbai will organize PBKs at their home location on 26 May, while DC locks Hoorns against the same team on 24 May in the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
The franchise-based franchise is currently placed number four with seven victories (14 points) in their 12 games, while the Axar Patel-guided side is in fifth place with 13 points in 12 games.
