Not one to always take credit for what he does on the field, Ravindra Jadeja is the perfect example of an all-round player. A crucial member of the Indian team in all three formats of the game, Jadeja made key breakthroughs in the Asia Cup Super 4 match against Sri Lanka on Tuesday. Thanks to his two wickets in the match, Jadeja went past Irfan Pathan to become the leading wicket-taker for India in the Asia Cup in ODI formats.
Jadeja achieved the milestone in the Super Four stage match against Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium on Tuesday. He picked up two wickets while conceding 33 runs in the match. The Indian left-arm spinner has taken 24 wickets in 18 innings, overtaking Irfan Pathan’s 22 scalps in 12 innings.
Kuldeep Yadav is also in the race with 19 wickets in nine innings.
Overall, Jadeja is the fifth highest wicket-taking bowler in the Asia Cup. Muthiah Muralidaran leads the charts with 30 scalps in 24 innings.
India’s bowling attack combined to end Sri Lanka’s 13 unbeaten run in ODI matches and seal their spot in the 2023 Asia Cup final with a match to spare as the hosts were dismissed for 172 on Tuesday chasing a paltry target in the R Premadasa Stadium .
While spinners from both sides dominated the match, the pacers also played a role in India’s 41-run win over the co-hosts.
Earlier in the game, the combative Dunith Wellalage and Charith Asalanka broke India’s top order to help Sri Lanka bundle Men in Blue for 213.
Youngster Wellalage achieved a remarkable feat as he secured his maiden 5-wicket haul, single-handedly dismantled a formidable Indian batting line-up and bagged the wicket of top hitters like Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya.
