Rishabh Pant is backing his naturally aggressive batting style and that is a positive sign for the Indian team, vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah said on Sunday after stumper’s fiery knock helped them make Sri Lanka a huge 400-plus goal in the second test. Pant became the fastest Indian batter to score a Test fifty when he reached goal in 28 balls on the second day of the game, surpassing Kapil Dev’s 30-ball record he set against Pakistan in 1982. “Not everyone (can) play the same way. Every individual has a different game plan, so he has supported his strengths,” Bumrah said after playing for the day.
Bumrah said Pant is getting more and more experience every day.
“Not every player in the team will play at the same pace, we understand that. He’s still getting more and more experience and learning about this game. That’s his plan (attacks) to move forward, so that’s a positive sign for U.S.” said the pacer.
Bumrah himself played a key role in taking over the second Test with his five-wicket haul, which was his first at home.
“It feels good. When you play all three formats, you have to take care of your body and sometimes you miss the home tests. But it’s always good, this is when I had the chance and can contribute to the success of the team is always a great feeling,” he said.
The spider-friendly lane made it difficult for the Sri Lankan batters, even as the Indians negotiated the difficult lane with confidence.
When asked what made the Indian off the job, Bumrah said “nobody is complaining”.
Bumrah feels that scoring runs on a course like this is much more satisfying.
“You always play in different conditions, not every wicket is going to be the same. If there’s a little help for the bowlers, when you score runs on a wicket like that, it gives a lot of confidence,” he said.

“You’re not going to get flat wickets everywhere, so when it’s a challenge, you always look forward to that challenge.
“No one is complaining about the wicket, yes everyone is finding a way and looking forward to contributing because they know if they score good runs on a difficult wicket it will give them a lot of confidence and when they play on a relatively flat wicket that will empower them. So that’s the atmosphere in our camp,” he said.
