Former Sri Lankan cricketer Rumesh Ratnayake has been appointed as interim coach of the national team for its upcoming tour of Australia on Wednesday. The five-match series from February 11-20 will be played at three venues, the Sydney Cricket Ground, Manuka Oval and Melbourne Cricket Ground. “He has been appointed by the Sri Lanka Cricket Executive Committee in consultation with the Sri Lanka Cricket Technical Advisory Committee,” SLC said in a statement.
Sri Lanka Cricket said Ratnayake will not travel to Australia with the team but will compete before the first T20I match as he is currently in self-isolation and has tested positive for COVID-19.
Meanwhile, the second, third and fourth T20Is have been relocated from Queensland and Adelaide to minimize biosecurity risks by reducing cross-country travel.
