Former Captain Mumbai Milind Rege died after a heart attack, just a few days after celebrating his 76th birthday. His downfall marked the loss of a steadfast that contributed enormously to Mumbai Cricket, both as a player and as a manager. “Sad to hear about Milind Rege Sir's death. He was a real Mumbai cricket player with huge contributions to the cricket of the city. He and other CCI members saw potential in me and asked me to play for CCI, who, like like I now look back, was a milestone moment in my career.

Reign's career was proof of his dedication and love for the game. As an off-spinner, he took 126 wickets in 52 first-class competitions between the 1966-67 and 1977-78 seasons, while also making important contributions with the BAT, and scored 1532 points on an average of 23.56. However, his impact reached much further than his playing days.
After retirement, Rege remained in a deep -being involved in the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) in various capacities and ultimately served as the most important selector. His sharp eye for talent played a crucial role in shaping the cricket -future of Mumbai, in particular when he was part of the selection panel that included a young Sachin Tendulkar in Mumbai's Ranji Trophy team in 1988.
The contributions of ReGe were honored in a moving tribute to the current semi-final of Ranji Trophy between Mumbai and Vidarbha in Nagpur. Before the start of the third day, both teams saw a minute of silence in his memory. Various Mumbai players, many of whom had earned their first-class caps under his selection committee, also wore black bracelets as a sign of respect, ESPNCRICINFO reported.
In addition to cricket circles, Rege shared a deep bond with the legendary cricket player Sunil Gavaskar, where the duo studied at the same school and university before playing together in the Dadar Union Sporting Club. His resilience was illustrated when he made a comeback to Cricket after a heart attack at the age of 26. Even in his later years, his dedication to the sport never staggered and since 2020 he served as an adviser to the MCA.
