Former cricketer Madan Lal said the rift between India Test skipper Virat Kohli and India’s Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) is not a controversy but a matter of opinion. Virat Kohli was removed as the ODI captain, whereupon BCCI president Sourav Ganguly told ANI that he had indeed spoken to Kohli about the leadership change, adding that he had asked him not to give up the T20I captaincy either. However, Kohli held a press conference on Wednesday in which former white-ball skipper Ganguly contradicted himself by saying he had never been asked not to leave the T20I captaincy.
“I think this situation should have been handled in a better way because it’s not a controversy but a matter of opinion. I don’t know what Sourav said to Virat, so I don’t want to comment on that. But I think that Sourav as president has to come out and make a statement and that will be the end of the whole issue. We have to focus on the South Africa tour now because it is an important match for us,” Madan Lal told ANI.
Madan Lal went on to say that he agrees with Sunil Gavaskar that Kohli should resolve the issue with management.
“Gavaskar is right with his point. Virat should solve all his problems with management. This is not a big issue. I would say that the selectors should have handled the situation better. before they made the decision,” Madan Lal said.
On the other hand, the Virat Kohli-led Indian red ball squad is in Johannesburg, South Africa to close horns with Proteas in the three-match test series.
India and South Africa will close the horns in the test series that starts from December 26.
