Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, who previously announced he will contest the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) polls, has now decided not to contest the polls for the position of CAB president. Instead, Sourav’s older brother Snehasish becomes the new CAB president. Ganguly, whose term as BCCI president recently came to an end, had served as the CAB president for four years between 2015 and 2019 before coming to the top body.
“I had said I would only run if there are elections. There will be no elections, so it will not be contested,” Ganguly told reporters in Eden Gardens after he chose not to submit his papers for the position. of the President on the last date of nomination.
“Had I been there, it would mean that two or more people wouldn’t get posts. So I’ve been pushed aside. I would have been elected unquestioned, but I don’t think it’s right. Others wouldn’t have the chance to run for this association They will work for three years now and then we’ll see.”
Asked about his next turns, he said: “Let’s see. I’ve been free of responsibilities for a while and I’m happy with it. I have no rival in CAB, everyone is my friend here. There are new and experienced people here to support the show. I’ll be there too and they’ll catch me sometimes,” he added before leaving the Eden.
Ganguly was due to submit his nomination on Saturday, but he told reporters the situation would be clear on Sunday. When asked when he would submit his nomination, he said, “Let’s wait until tomorrow, everything will be clear.” As the nomination deadline passed today, it became clear that he was not participating.
