India captain Rohit Sharma has reminded his decision to sign up for the decisive Sydney test of the Border Gavaskar -Trophy against Australia, and said he took the call for improving the team. Rohit spoke with former Australia captain Michael Clarke on Podcast Beyond23 Cricket, remembered his chat with head coach Gautam Gambhir and the chairman of Selectors Ajit Agarkar before the game, adding that the two contrasting views would not have been in Sydney. Rohit scored only 164 points in 15 innings, on average 10.83, because India lost the Border Gavaskar -Trophy for the first time in a decade.
About the decision to drop himself, Rohit suggested that he wanted Shubman Gill to play the series decision -maker, because he had missed the game before it in Sydney.
“In the last test match in Sydney I had to be honest with myself. I didn't hit the ball well. And I didn't want to place myself there because we had many of the other guys who also struggled. If you added yourself, it just gets a bit more … And we wanted Gill to play. He is such a good player. He missed in the previous test,” Rohit.
“I had something like:” Okay, if I don't hit the ball well, it's now. ” It can change ten days later, five days later.
Rohit added that since he had taken over CaptainCy, his focus was on the team for individual goals.
“Every decision you are trying to make, you are not guaranteed to be successful. Since I started accepting the national team, not only me, I wanted to think the rest of the boys the same – try to put the team first and to do what is needed for the team and don't worry about 'my runs, my scores,' and kind of things.
