Former India captain and batting legend Sunil Gavaskar believes there is no need to worry about Virat Kohli’s form after the batter was ejected on Friday over a duck in the third and final ODI against the West Indies in Ahmedabad. Kohli had a rather quiet run against Windies and was sacked for 8, 18 and 0 in the three games. However, India went on to complete their first-ever clean sweep against Windies in an ODI series, winning all three matches in full.
Speaking of Kohli’s form, Gavaskar highlighted the fact that the former India captain had recently scored two half-centuries in South Africa’s ODI series and all this chatter around his form is due to Kohli setting very high batting standards in the Past.
Gavaskar also highlighted the fact that Kohli may be in the middle of a “lean patch”, but there was nothing to worry about.
“Let’s not make a problem of it. Any batsman can come out and he (Kohli) is human. Only that he has set such high standards that we are even discussing this. Like I said, a bad patch can happen to anyone.”
“He’s probably going through a lean period where his first foul turns out to be his last. Rohit Sharma didn’t get any points today. He didn’t score any points in the previous game either. He got a 60 in the first game, but we don’t have it about him Virat Kohli got two 70s in South Africa just 4 games back.
“So I don’t think there is a problem to worry about. Just that sometimes batters don’t get points and that’s what happened to Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma,” Gavaskar said on host announcer during the show after the game. Star Sports.

Virat Kohli’s form has been under scrutiny for a while as he hasn’t scored a century in any format since November 2019. His last century in ODIs came in August 2019 when he was back to back tons on a tour to the West Indies.
In 21 innings since then, he has been fired three times for a duck and registered four more single-digit scores. He also scored 10 half-centuries during this period, which is a clear indication that Kohli was in good batting form.
