The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Friday announced the prize money for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022, with the title winners taking home a whopping $1.6 million. The apex cricket body stated in an official press release: “The ICC has announced that the winning side at the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Melbourne on November 13 would receive a prize pool of $1.6 million, with runners-up would get half the amount.”
At the conclusion of the 16-team tournament, which lasts almost a month, the losing semifinalists will each receive $400,000 of the total prize pool of $5.6 million.
The eight teams that exit the Super 12 stage will receive $70,000 each. Like last year at the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, a win in each of the 30 matches in the Super 12 stage will be worth $40,000.
“The eight teams that have made it straight to the Super 12 stage are Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan and South Africa,” an official release said.
