India An captain Abhimanyu Easwaran is likely to be named as injured captain Rohit Sharma’s replacement for the next two test series against Bangladesh, which begin on December 14 at Chattogram. Skipper Rohit, who valiantly tried to salvage the ODI series despite a dislocation of his left thumb, is likely out of the Test series. “Abhimanyu Easwaran has scored back-to-back hundreds in ongoing A Test series and is an opener. In all likelihood he will join the squad in Chattogram after completing his second A Test in Sylhet,” a senior BCCI told source to PTI on condition of anonymity. .

Easwaran scored 141 in the first A-test and was 144 not out for stumps on day two of the second test.

While Easwaran could come as Rohit’s cover, it will be the site of skipper KL Rahul and young Shubman Gill who would open the innings for India at Chattogram and Dhaka.

It is also clear that Bangladeshi sailor Mukesh Kumar, who has consistently featured for India A, or Umran Malik, could replace an injured Mohammed Shami.

Bowling in India could look seriously exhausted as Ravindra Jadeja, who has not played a single match since undergoing knee surgery, will be playing the Test matches right away.

While Axar Patel is already in the squad, Saurabh Kumar could be called up from the A-team as a backup left arm spinner unless Suryakumar Yadav gets into the mix through some out-of-box thinking.

Surya has already confirmed that he will play the second Ranji Trophy match in Mumbai this season.
