Rohit Rayudu and Tilak Varma have had impressive centuries to set up Hyderabad’s 17-run victory over Himachal Pradesh via the VJD method in their Group A match of the one-day Vijay Hazare Trophy tournament on Saturday. Opener Rayudu hit 156 off 144 balls (12x4s; 8x6s) while Varma went unbeaten with one hit on 132 of 106 deliveries (10x4s; 3x6s) as Hyderabad scored a massive 360 for 3 in their allotted 50 overs after being invited to play bat.
The duo netted 123 runs for the second wicket to frustrate pedestrian Himachal bowlers for 32 overs.
Himachal captain Rishi Dhawan must have regretted his decision to join Hyderabad after winning the toss as his team was awarded 48 overs for their chase as two overs were deducted due to poor light.
The revised target was calculated at 353 by the VJD method and Himachal was only able to score 335 for 9 of 48 overs.
Number three batter Amit Kumar hit 103 of 98 balls (12x4s; 1×6) but that wasn’t enough to win the high goal.
Elligaram Sanketh was the most successful bowler for Hyderabad with marks of 3/54.
