Tamil Nadu continued their winning streak as they defeated Bengal by 146 runs in an Elite Group B match at the Vijay Hazare Trophy tournament on Saturday. Tamil Nadu, who was sent off as batter, piled up 295 for 8 in 50 overs, riding on half a century of the consistent B Indrajith (64), Dinesh Karthik (87) and J Kousik (50) then knocking out the opponents for 149 in 39.1 overs for their third straight win. From 22 to 2 and 55 to 3 in the 18th over, the Tamil Nadu batters went into overdrive with the veteran Karthik in the lead, joined first by Indrajith and then by Kousik.
Indrajith and Karthik tied for 105 runs for the fourth wicket before the veteran batter added 74 runs for the fifth wicket.
The last 13 overs yielded 135 runs as the Tamil Nadu batters went crazy, especially Kousik and M Shahrukh Khan (32 of 12).
In response, Bengal was never on the hunt and continued to lose wickets at regular intervals, with R Silambarasan picking up four wickets at average speed, including opener Shreevats Goswami (1).
Meanwhile, Karnataka humiliated Mumbai by seven wickets while R Samarth scored an excellent, unbeaten 96.
Mumbai’s star batter Surya Kumar Yadav couldn’t impress much, falling for 8 to Pravin Dubey (4/29).
In another match, Bengal defeated Pondicherry by five wickets, making it tough chasing an 83-goal.
