Former Team India selector Sarandeep Singh said on Wednesday that the nomination of Rohit Sharma as the ODI skipper was made by the selection committee and that the BCCI has no role in it. Rohit Sharma was named India’s new ODI skipper last week and he takes over from Virat Kohli as India gears up for the South African series. “It is the job of the selection committee to select the players and appoint the captain. BCCI does not play any role in the selection process. The statements Virat made in today’s press conference were a bit shocking. It should not have happened the the way they did it wasn’t good,” Sarandeep Singh told ANI.
“Personally I think there should not be two captains in white ball cricket. Things could have been handled in a more professional way and Virat should have been informed sooner. I just want everything settled as it could lead to harm to Indian cricket,” he added.
Earlier at a virtual press conference, Kohli said: “Whatever was said about the communication that took place during the decision made was inaccurate. I was contacted an hour and a half before the selection meeting on September 8th for the test series.”
“And there had been no previous communication with me since I announced the T20I captaincy decision until December 8th to be the ODI captain. To which I replied ‘ok fine,’” he continued.

Sarandeep further dismissed rumors of the rift between Rohit and Kohli, calling them a “myth.”
“Rohit and Virat are both mature players and captains. They have never questioned each other and they both know how to handle such situations. Even if they weren’t such good friends, they would still be playing for the country. have won so many matches for India and their combination is amazing,” said Sarandeep Singh.
