India vs Pakistan – that’s a cricket rivalry that sparks many stories that have the potential to become folklore. Virender Sehwag and Shoaib Akhtar are part of that cricket rivalry. While one was an ace opener, who changed the definition of batting at the top in Indian cricket, the other was one of the fastest bowlers the world has ever seen. The two were fiercely competitive on the field, while sharing a great friendship off the field. They also often let themselves be beaten out of the field. A new episode added to that relationship.
“You like a lot of chatter. Is there any friendship in this chatter?” Sehwag was asked on Breakfast With Champions.
“Where there is love there is banter or where there is friendship. With Shoaib Akhtar I have a deep friendship since 2003-2004. We have been there twice, they have come twice. There is friendship and we also pull each other’s leg. He made a statement. I have more notes than the number of locks of hair Virender Sehwag has on his head. Now my locks of hair are more than your notes. That slogan would be cool for “Breakfast With Champions.”
The 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) Final turned out to be a sporting spectacle in which Ravindra Jadeja scored 10 points from the last two balls of the match, bringing the Chennai Super Kings over the line. The last over of the match all went according to plan for GT, with Mohit Sharma conceding only 3 runs from the first 4 balls. However, the veteran pacer’s rhythm seems to have been shaken up a bit after a brief chat with skipper Hardik Pandya, which former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag was not happy about.
In a chat on Cricbuzz, Sehwag berated Hardik for his decision to intervene despite Mohit managing to execute the plans to perfection.
“If someone bowls well and delivers with yorkers why go and talk to him? He knows the batsman needs 10 from 2 and he has to stick with yorkers. Then why waste his time? Had Mohit hit for runs , then he could have gone and had a word, but when the bowler is doing his job you want to finish the over quickly.
“It could also be that the captain was concerned about whether the bowler would like any changes in the field for the last two balls. Still, if I had been there I wouldn’t have disturbed him.” said Sehwag after the game.
