Kuldeep Yadav trains at the NCA
Kuldeep Yadav’s road to recovery has begun at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. The left-arm wrist spinner, who has played just seven games this year – five ODIs and two T20Is – before being sidelined by a knee injury, is doing everything he can to regain his full fitness and regain his place in the Indian side. Kuldeep posted a video on Instagram on Thursday showing the wrist spinner doing fitness exercises.
“There’s no point turning back half way through, because you have to cover the same distance that, if you go forward, can get you to your destination,” Kuldeep wrote.
The last few years have been very tough for the spinner from Uttar Pradesh, who had recently been recognized as India’s best spinner in white ball cricket, knocking on doors to cement his place in the Test side.
A decline in form since the 2019 ODI World Cup meant he warmed up to the benches for most of last year, despite being part of the Indian squad in virtually every series.
Just as the 27-year-old appeared to be getting back on track in the Sri Lanka series, an unfortunate knee injury shut him out of the UAE leg of the IPL. The extent of the injury was such that Kuldeep had to miss the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 and the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He also had to undergo surgery in September of this year.
“The surgery was a success and the road to recovery has only just begun. Thank you all so much for your great support. The focus now is to complete my rehab and get back on the pitch as soon as possible to do what I love,” Kuldeep had tweeted.

It turned out that the wrist spinner for the left arm was not held by the Kolkata Knight Riders, for which he has been playing since 2016.
The talented spinner, the only Indian to have two hat-tricks to his name, hopes to recover in time and get a franchise in the mega auction ahead of IPL 2022.
