Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry has extended her stay with Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) club Sydney Sixers and will represent the squad in the eighth season of the competition. Perry is a founding member of the Sixers, who have led the club in all editions of the world’s premier domestic women’s competition, including titles in WBBL 02 and WBBL 03. A product of NSW’s trail system, the 31-year-old now plays her cricket stands for Victoria, but said she had never considered playing for another WBBL franchise.
“It’s so wonderful to be able to continue another WBBL season with the Sixers,” Perry said in a statement from Birmingham, where she plays in The Hundred.
“The club has been such an important part of my career and I am especially proud of what the team has been able to achieve over the past seven years, both on and off the pitch, especially in terms of engaging and inspiring many young girls and boys involved to be at cricket.”
“I’m really looking forward to the challenge this season will bring, as well as the opportunity to play at home again,” she concluded.
This season, Perry and her veteran teammates, such as Alyssa Healy and Ash Gardner, will team up with a new coach for the first time in tournament history, after longtime mentor Ben Sawyer took on the role as head coach of New Zealand and the Sixers. who were linked to former England great Charlotte Edwards.
Edwards said Perry was a natural fit to continue leading the club.
