West Indian all-rounder Deandra Dottin announced on Monday that she will retire from international cricket with immediate effect. The announcement came after Barbados’ nine-wicket loss to Australia in the ongoing Commonwealth Games. Dottin posted a lengthy statement on Twitter announcing her retirement from international cricket.
Dottin took to Twitter, writing: “Please accept this letter as my formal retirement from the senior women’s West Indies team effective August 1, 2022. This announcement has attracted much attention as cricket has always been a passion of mine. burnout one has to take the time to reassess their commitment. There have been many obstacles during my cricketing career that I have had to overcome, but the current climate and team environment has given me the ability to thrive and my passion.”
“It is with great sadness but no regret that I realize that I am no longer able to adhere to the team culture and environment as it has undermined my ability to perform excellently,” she added.

The 31-year-old played 146 ODIs and 126 T20Is for the West Indies. She made her debut in 2008 and is known as one of the most destructive players the game has ever played.
She scored 3,727 runs and 2,697 runs in ODIs and T20Is and with the ball she went on to take 72 (ODIs) and 62 (T20Is) wickets.

“I am grateful for the opportunities presented to me and I have thought long and hard about my decision. Playing for the West Indies and representing the region has been an honor. During my 14 years playing I have trained and grown as a player at my best physically, mentally and emotionally,” read her statement.
“It is the combination of this growth that has helped me to think about what is really important to me. With great sadness but without regret I realize that I am no longer able to stick to the team culture and team environment, because it has undermined my ability to perform excellently,” she added.
