The West Indies announced their 15-man roster for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia on Wednesday. The squad is led by wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran and Rovman Powell as his deputies. The team also saw the return of batter Evin Lewis after his last stint in last year’s World Cup. The announcement also came as a shock as some big names such as all-rounder Andre Russell and spider king Sunil Narine were missing. On Russell’s exclusion, Desmond Haynes, CWI chief selector, said the board was not convinced of Russell’s performance and form.
“We had a meeting with Andre Russell earlier this year. We are still not convinced, he is not performing as well as we would like to see him in the league (CPL). I think in the situation with Andre Russell “I have just decided to move on and look for someone who is in shape and doing well in the T20 format,” Haynes said as reported by Cricbuzz.
Russell had played for the West Indies at the T20 World Cup last year.
The big punching all-rounder has had a quiet time so far in CPL 2022 with Trinbago Knight Riders, especially with the bat, who took a top score of just 17.
Speaking of Narine, Haynes said he had not received any message from the spinner about his availability and that he also seemed uninterested.

“I got no message from Narine about his availability to play. There were talks that the captain (Nicholas Pooran) had with Narine, and all reports showed he was not interested,” Haynes said.
