The debate over Virat Kohli’s form continued after he failed to register big scores in the T20Is or ODIs against England. He had a rest from the ODIs against the West Indies that followed and is also not in the roster for the T20Is, and it is unclear if he will travel there to Zimbabwe for the Indian series. Former India selector Saba Karim said team management should not force Kohli to play against Zimbabwe or tell him he will not qualify for the T20 World Cup roster if he is not playing against Zimbabwe.
“Firstly, I think the selectors and team management should figure out whether Virat Kohli is essential for India’s preparation for India’s T20 World Cup side or not. And once the selectors decide, the team management believes that Virat Kohli is essential is to the success of the team then I would chart a path for Virat Kohli’s return to great form,” said Saba Karim on Sports18’s show “Sports Over The Top.”
“I think that’s when the selectors or the captain or Rahul Dravid would like to have a chat with him and then try to take it further,” he said.

“I wouldn’t want to impose on Virat Kohli that ‘Hey listen, you have to come back and play this Zimbabwe series or we won’t pick you for the T20 World Cup.’ So I think once you decide he is such a vital player to the success of the team I will contact him I will say ok it is up to you to decide if you want to come back and the Zimbabwe You want to play ODI or you want to take a longer break and come back for the Asia Cup T20,” explains Saba Karim.
Kohli has said he wants to help India win the Asia Cup and the 2022 T20 World Cup.
