Mumbai Indians all-rounder Hayley Matthews won the Purple Cap, while Delhi Capitals captain Meg Lanning picked up the Orange Cap in the inaugural Women’s Premier League on Sunday. After an outstanding campaign, Lanning was named the winner of the WPL 2023 Orange Cap. The DC captain scored the highest with 35 runs in the last inning and finished the season with 345 total runs. After nine games, she finished the season with a 49.29 average and 139.11 pass rate.
Nat Sciver-Brunt, the competition winner for MI in both the knockouts and the competition, came in second. Before the playoffs, she was not even among the top five.
Hayley Matthews, one of the key players in the league, won the Purple Cap after an outstanding stint that led to DC’s demise. The Caribbean all-rounder finished 3-5 from four overs, taking her wicket total to 16. She was tied with UP Warriorz’s Sophie Ecclestone, but she had a higher average and a higher economic rate.
Over the course of the match, MI’s bowling superiority was evident. Amelia Kerr, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Saika Ishaque and Issy Wong, among others, made it to the list of the top 10 wicket takers in the competition.
