Indian wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant escaped what could have been a fatal car crash on December 30. While driving a luxury car, Pant reportedly dozed off while driving from Delhi to Roorkee. As a result, his car hit the distributor and caught fire. Fortunately, Pant managed to break the windshield and was pulled out by some truckers before the fire engulfed the entire car. In response to the horrific footage of Pant’s accident, Indian cricketing legend Kapil Dev has advised him and other cricketers never to drive alone.
In a conversation on ABP news, Kapil said that top cricket players can easily afford drivers, and that is why they should always drive with a driver. The 1983 World Cup winning Indian captain cited his own example of a motorcycle accident he was involved in at a young age.
“This is learning. When I was still a budding cricketer, I had a motorcycle accident. From that day on, my brother wouldn’t even let me touch the motorcycle. I’m just thankful to God that Rishabh Broek is safe,” said Kapil Dev.
“Yes, you have a nice car with high speeds, but you have to be careful. You can easily afford a driver, you don’t have to drive it alone. I understand that someone has hobbies or even passion for such things. It is of course to have it at his age, but you also have responsibilities. Only you can take care of yourself. You have to decide things for yourself,” Kapil continued.
According to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Pant has two cuts on his forehead, a torn ligament in his right knee and multiple burns, on top of a number of other minor injuries. The 25-year-old is said to be stable and has already been removed from ICU.
