Legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar Monday congratulated 16-year-old Indian grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa on beating world champion Magnus Carlsen in the eighth round of the Airthings Masters – an online fast-paced chess match. Tendulkar said Praggnanandhaa has made India proud and wished him a “successful” chess career ahead. “What an amazing feeling it must be for Pragg. All 16, and to beat the experienced and decorated Magnus Carlsen, and that too while playing black, is magical! Best wishes for a long and successful chess career ahead. You you made India proud,” Tendulkar tweeted.

Praggnanandhaa is now the third Indian to beat Carlsen.
Carlsen had racked up three wins in a row as he ramped up the gears ominously. But against 16-year-old Praggnanandhaa, he blundered badly, and the Indian star held out for the win.
It was Praggnanandhaa’s first chess win of any kind against the Norwegian and came after losing three games in a row. Carlsen finished fifth – up from 11th on the standings on Sunday.
