Cryptocurrency Prices Today: A day after the rally, major cryptocurrencies traded in the red on Friday as the crypto market posted some gains. The world’s largest and most popular cryptocurrency Bitcoin traded below $24,000, while Ethereum remained at $1,900 ahead of the highly anticipated merger buzz. Total crypto market volume fell 1.57 percent in the past 24 hours to $85.24 billion.
The crypto industry’s latest indignities include a report that Indian regulators were investigating at least 10 crypto exchanges for allegedly helping foreign companies launder money through crypto.
Top crypto tokens traded mixed Friday. BNB, Polkadot and Uniswap each fell 2 percent, while Bitcoin lost 1 percent. Ethereum was the sole winner among the major cryptocurrencies.
Meanwhile, BlackRock Inc, the world’s largest asset manager, has launched a spot bitcoin private trust for institutional clients in the United States, according to a blog post on its website. The trust will track bitcoin’s performance and provide direct exposure to the price of the digital currency, BlackRock said.
The crypto market collapsed in May and June as concerns about high inflation and interest rate hikes from the Federal Reserve prompted investors to dump risky assets. After the collapse of a large pair of tokens, some cryptocurrency lenders have frozen customer withdrawals and several crypto companies have cut jobs. Prices have partially recovered, with bitcoin gaining 17 percent in July. Ether is up around $1,900 from its June low of $880.
In other news, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has searched one of the directors of M/s Zanmai Lab Pvt Ltd, which owns popular cryptocurrency exchange WazirX, and has issued a freezing order to freeze their bank assets for an amount of € 64.67 crores. ED has been investigating money laundering against a number of Indian NBFC companies engaged in online instant micro-loans. ED’s investigation found that several Chinese fund-backed fintech companies were unable to obtain an NBFC license from RBI to carry out lending operations.
