Petrol, diesel price today: Gasoline and diesel rates continue to rise as state-owned oil retailers have raised fuel prices for the ninth time in the past 10 days. Petrol and diesel prices were increased by 80 paise per liter today, bringing the total price increase over the past ten days to Rs 6.40 per liter. Prices had been frozen since Nov. 4 in the run-up to parliamentary elections in five states, a period when the cost of crude oil rose by about $30 a barrel. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has attributed the rise in fuel prices to the disruption of supply chains and the consequent rise in global oil prices due to the war in Ukraine.
On Wednesday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi pranked Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the daily rise in fuel prices. Gandhi said Prime Minister Modi’s daily to-do list includes raising petrol, diesel and gas prices, making farmers helpless and showing “hollow dreams” of employment to the youth.
“The Prime Minister’s Daily To-Do List – How Much To Raise Gasoline, Diesel And Gas Tariffs, How To Stop The Discussion About People’s Spending, How To Show Empty Dreams Of Employment To The Youth, Which Government Company To Sell And How To Farmers make more helpless,” said Lok Saba member from Wayanad in a tweet in Hindi.
Rates have been increased across the country and vary from state to state depending on the degree of local taxes. This is the ninth price hike since the end of a four-and-a-half-month pause in the rate reset on March 22.
