Sensex today: In a quiet trading session, India’s benchmark indices ended on September 26 with the Sensex falling 78.22 points (0.12 percent) to end at 65,945.47 and the Nifty losing 9.80 points (or 0.05 percent) to to close at 19,664.70.
Amid mixed global signals, indices opened subdued. The selling in the afternoon session took the Nifty below 19,650 but managed to trim losses and end a flat note.
In the broader markets, the BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices ended mixed with the former down 0.09 per cent and the latter up 0.33 per cent.
Sector-wise, the Nifty PSU Bank, IT and Banking indices were the biggest laggards, declining between 0.3 percent and 0.6 percent. On the positive side, the Nifty FMCG index added 0.5 percent.
Shares of Eicher Motors, the listed parent company of Royal Enfield, and TVS Motor Company were in the spotlight, rising up to 4 percent on the BSE in intraday trade on Tuesday after foreign brokerage firm Jefferies said it prefers these two stocks to Bajaj Auto. and Hero MotoCorp in the two-wheeler (2W) segment.
GVK Power & Infrastructure’s share price was stuck in the upper circuit of 5 percent for eight days and was trading at the highest level since September 2018 on the BSE.
