Sensex today: Domestic stock markets started Wednesday’s trading session on a lukewarm note amid weak signals from foreign markets.
The S&P BSE Sensex touched a low of 66,985 and fell 513 points to 67,090, while the NSE Nifty50 lost 150 points to trade just below 20,000.
In the broader market, the BSE MidCap index fell 0.7 percent and the SmallCap index fell 0.5 percent.
HDFC Bank was the biggest loser among the Sensex 30 stocks with a loss of over 2 percent. Tech Mahindra, Tata Steel, Bharti Airtel and Infosys were the other prominent laggards.
Meanwhile, Hang Seng fell 0.6 percent among Asian peers. Nikkei, Shanghai and Taiwan fell to 0.3 percent.
Global signals
Asian stocks struggled to make progress on Wednesday, while 10-year U.S. Treasury yields hit a 16-year high, as rising oil prices fueled inflation and paved the way for the Federal Reserve to forecast that interest rates will last longer would remain higher.
Wall Street lost ground on Tuesday as risk sentiment weighed as the US Federal Reserve convened for its much-anticipated two-day monetary policy meeting.
