Sensex today: The Sensex and Nifty indices started in the green Friday morning amid strong signals from abroad. Frontline Indices Nifty50 rose 100 points to trade above 17,900 levels and the S&P BSE Sensex climbed over 350 points to trade above 60,000 levels.
Wider markets also rose simultaneously as Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 rose to 0.6 percent.
IndusInd Bank, ICICI Bank, SBI, HUL and Tata Steel were the largest contributors to the benchmark indices.
All sectors opened in a sea of green with the Nifty Bank and Nifty Metal indices leading the way.
Asian equities rose as the dollar fell, with markets calming down following a record rate hike by the European Central Bank and aggressive comments from the US Federal Reserve chairman, bolstering the prospect of aggressive tightening.
Tokyo stocks opened higher Friday after gains on Wall Street, despite the European Central Bank’s biggest-ever rate hike and more aggressive comments from the US Federal Reserve. The benchmark Nikkei 225 index rose 0.49 percent or 138.54 points to 28,203.82 in early trading, while the broader Topix index rose 0.08 percent or 1.52 points to 1,959.14.
Wall Street’s major indices posted gains on Thursday, mostly lifted by financials and healthcare companies, as investors digested aggressive comments from policymakers who bet on a major rate hike later this month.
