Sensex Today: Sensex and Nifty opened on a negative note ahead of the weekly M&A expiration date.

Globally, US markets continued their downward trend for a fourth straight day after no progress was made in debt ceiling negotiations. Dow Jones, the S&P 500 and NASDAQ Composite indices fell 0.7 percent.
Aside from that, minutes from the US FOMC revealed that officials were uncertain about how to navigate the rate hike trajectory while trying to contain inflation.
In Asia Pacific, markets were mixed this morning, with Nikkei 225 and Kospi rising as much as 0.2 percent. On the other hand, the S&P 200 and Topix indices fell 0.7 percent.
For the commodities market, Brent Crude and WTI Crude prices fell 0.2 percent to $78 per barrel and $74 per barrel, respectively.
