Sensex today: The Sensex and Nifty indices opened in the green on Tuesday after a four-day losing streak amid mixed signals. At 09:16 IST, the Sensex rose 224.23 points, or 0.39 percent, to 57,369.45, and the Nifty rose 65.70 points, or 0.39 percent, to 17,082. About 1,467 stocks are up, 574 stocks are down and 80 stocks are unchanged.
Power Grid Corporation, ONGC, Coal India, Cipla and NTPC were among the big winners of the Nifty, while Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto, Divis Labs, Eicher Motors and Tech Mahindra were the losers.
Asian markets tried to stabilize on Tuesday after a few wild days of stumbling stocks, crumbling bonds, a plunging pound and a rising dollar, with the dollar falling slightly and equities flat.
Tokyo shares opened higher on Tuesday as investors hunted for bargains after sharp declines in the previous session amid fears of an economic slowdown. The benchmark Nikkei 225 index rose 0.54 percent or 143.40 points to 26,574.95 in early trading, while the broader Topix index rose 0.40 percent or 7.47 points to 1,871.75.
