EMBARGO TO 1910 SG (1210 LONDON) ON TUESDAY 13 AUG 2024
The New York Stock Exchange welcomes Zeekr Intelligent Technology Holding Limited in honor of its initial public offering on May 10, 2024.
BEIJING — Chinese electric car brand Sea asparagus announced new batteries on Tuesday that the company says have the world's fastest charging capacity.
The offering is intended to address long-standing consumer concerns about battery range and ease of charging.
In just 10.5 minutes, Zeekr's new batteries can be charged from 10% to 80% using the automaker's ultra-fast charging stations, the U.S.-listed company said. Zeekr said the new battery can achieve the same charging performance even at temperatures as low as -10 degrees Celsius (14 degrees Fahrenheit) in about 30 minutes.
For comparison: Elon Musk's Tesla says the company's superchargers allow the company's vehicles to charge up to 200 miles in 15 minutes.
The company's website states that the Model 3 can reach a range of 174 miles (280 kilometers) in 15 minutes, which is about 48% of the stated range of 360 miles (585 kilometers).
Chinese car manufacturer Nio has also offered the alternative of a three-minute battery swap. The subscription service automatically replaces the battery of designated car models with a charged battery at specific swap stations.
Zeekr said the 2025 007 sedan, which begins deliveries next week, will be the first model to use the new batteries.
The company said it has opened more than 500 ultra-fast charging stations in China and plans to double that number by the end of this year. Zeekr aims to operate more than 10,000 ultra-fast charging stations by 2026.
The Yellowish-owned electric car company delivered a record number of vehicles in June, making first-half deliveries the largest among U.S.-listed Chinese companies that sell only pure electric vehicles. Deliveries fell slightly in July.
