According to sources, GST Council has brought prepackaged and labeled foods such as wheat flour, puffed rice, curd/lassi/buttermilk and breadcrumbs under the GST regime. The council approved a proposal to impose a 12 percent tax on hotel rooms that cost less than Rs 1,000 per day. The GST council has also decided to impose five percent pre-tax GST on hospital rooms renting above Rs 5,000, excluding intensive care units (ICUs).
