According to Clear, the tax-related service provider platform, the “Modify ITR Form Data” feature under the e-filing portal allows taxpayers to make changes to their bank account, address, mobile number, and email ID. It is important to note that taxpayers can only submit the request for the processing of the ITR.
Taxpayers can submit their requests by following the steps below:
- Login to the ‘e-filing’ portal https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/
- Go to the ‘My Account’ tab at the top left of the page.
- Under the ‘My account’ tab, select ‘Service request’.
- Under ‘Service Request’, select ‘Request Type’ as ‘New Request’.
- Then under ‘Request category’ – choose ‘Change ITR form data’.
- Then click on ‘Submit’.
- A new screen shows ‘Change ITR Form Details’.
- The taxpayer’s PAN would be displayed.
- The taxpayer must fill in ‘Acknowledgment Number’ of the ITR here.
- In the next screen, a taxpayer can choose from ‘Change bank account details’, ‘Change address details’ and ‘Change e-mail ID/mobile number details’.
- Here the taxpayer must choose the necessary option, provide the necessary information and submit the request.
- Once your ‘Change in ITR Form Data’ request has been submitted, a success message will appear on the screen with a Transaction ID.
After updating your bank details, you will need to revalidate your ITR.
To do this, follow these steps:
- Go to the “My Account” tab.
- Click on “Bank accounts”.
- Click the “Re-validate” button next to the bank account you updated.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
- Once your bank details have been re-validated, your ITR will be processed and your refund will be issued.
After you successfully submit the request, the updated information will be reflected on your income tax return.
