Belonging to the Kondh tribe and residing in Thuapadi village of Rayagada district, Odisha, Krushna Chandra’s journey to success was marked by unwavering perseverance. Despite working as a day laborer in the fields for thirteen years and another two years as a migrant worker in a brick kiln, he had set his sights on the NEET exam.
Krushna Chandra’s decision to pursue higher education was motivated by personal ambition and the pursuit of a better life for his family. Amidst the responsibilities of fatherhood of two children and the financial constraints that came with it, he once again embarked on the path of education.
Initially enrolling for a B.Sc. Krushna Chandra’s chemistry program and determination led him to make considerable sacrifices. His brothers had paid jobs and, as the eldest, he was responsible for providing for the family’s income. Despite all the setbacks, his hunger for education prevailed.
With a meager daily wage of Rs 100 from farm labour, Krushna Chandra ventured to Perumbur, Kerala in 2012 in search of work in a brick kiln. After initially facing financial difficulties, he transferred to a match factory job in Kottayam.
In NEET 2023, his steadfast efforts paid off as Krushna Chandra Ataka achieved an All-India Rank of 718996. His dedication and pursuit of his dreams inspired those around him, including government officials. Prime Minister VK Pandian took to social media to express his admiration for Krushna Chandra, sharing his pride and affirming that the government would support his education spending.
Krushna Chandra’s journey was a joint effort, as the community and government rallied behind him. He overcame financial obstacles, managed to secure his admission and repay loans with renewed hope. His inspiring story mirrors that of triumph over adversity and dedication to a dream come true.
