A large majority of parents (67 percent) believe their children need data protection, but almost half (41 percent) are unable to help their children in the digital space due to a lack of awareness about data security laws , reveals the latest research from Tsaaro, a data privacy and cybersecurity service provider.

A whopping 67 percent of parents surveyed said their children need data privacy. The extensive survey, which involved more than 700 people from across India, also found that 80 percent of parents believe lawmakers should take immediate steps to ensure children’s data privacy. Of the total respondents, 93 percent of parents said they know what data privacy is.

The survey also found that 68 percent of parents reported receiving messages/emails from coaching institutes, etc. containing information about their child, even though they had not given them any information about their children. Shockingly, about 41 percent of parents are unaware of laws that help protect their child’s data, which was shocking, especially in this digital age.

The numbers also show a high sign of parents trying to teach them the idea of privacy at a young age. Several parents indicated that they ensure that their children use devices in a normal place, under their supervision, become familiar with the applications their children use, monitor their online footprint, etc.

Akarsh Singh, co-founder of Tsaaro, said: “Parents have taken steps to ensure their children are comfortable with privacy, but there are a few issues these parents report facing when trying to teach their children about This issue is the immense technicality and use of jargon. This raises the question of whether the notion of data privacy cannot be simplified. We noticed a sense of disparity when it came to how parents keep themselves informed about the ways in which they make sure they are well informed about how to ensure their child’s privacy because the answers were fragmented.”
