The registration process for admission for students from general category to Kindergarten, KG and Class 1 in private schools will begin here on November 23, according to a notification issued by the Directorate of Education. There is a reservation of 25 percent of seats for students from economically weaker sections (EWS) and disadvantaged groups (DG), and children with disabilities in private schools. A separate list will be released for them. For admission to preschool (kindergarten), kindergarten (KG) and Class 1, the minimum age – as on March 31 – should be three years, four years and five years respectively, according to the notification. Preschool, Kindergarten and Class 1 are classified as entry-level classes and the upper limit for admission is less than four years, less than five years and less than six years respectively.
The notification stated that “age relaxation for admission up to 30 days may be allowed at the principal level in the minimum and upper age limits for these classes”. The Directorate of Education (DoE) also directed that a monitoring cell should be set up in each district under the chairmanship of the district deputy director. Purchasing the prospectus is not mandatory along with the admission form and only Rs 25 as registration fee can be charged from the parents, the notification said. The admission process last year started on December 1.
Unaided Recognized Private Schools Action Committee chairman Bharat Arora said the “early announcement of entry level admissions in Delhi is very valuable as this will provide clarity to parents and schools to plan for the upcoming (academic) session”. “Schools will also be given sufficient time to prepare for the next session in terms of any changes or upgrades in infrastructure or other resources,” he added.
